How to prepare for CSIR-UGC JRF-NET exam

Dear Aspirants, once you have decided to pursue research/lectureship as your career, welcome to the noble profession (as it is called). A perfect planning is required to crack this high reputation examination, let us move step by step towards the goal.

Now, as the application form is out, first step is to fill the application form and secure your position as a “candidate”. Please go through our earlier post for the same. Before that let us have a quick look over the eligibility criteria-

Next matter of consideration is Syllabus and Scheme of exam-

Syllabus and scheme of exam can be seen at www.csirhrdg.res.in .

Important to note: the exam scheme for chemical sciences has been revised from June, 2017 CSIR-UGC (NET) exam onwards.

The examination paper for all subjects are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) type.

The question paper shall be divided into three parts A, B and C as per syllabus and scheme of exam.

PART A- is common to all subjects. This part contains questions pertaining to-

-General aptitude with emphasis on logical reasoning,

-graphical analysis,

-analytical and numerical ability,

-quantitative comparison,

-series formation,

-puzzles etc.

 

PART B- Contains subject related conventional multiple choice questions, generally covering the topics given in the syllabus.

 

PART C- Contains higher value questions to test the candidate’s knowledge of scientific concepts and/or application of the scientific concepts. Questions are of analytical nature where a candidate is expected to apply the scientific knowledge to arrive at the solution to the given scientific problem.

 

There is a provision of negative marking for the wrong answers. In any case if a question is found to be not correct a benefit of doubt would be given in case you attempt the particular question.

The next step is preparation strategy.

To be very honest preparation and gathering knowledge is a continuous process, it’s never a one month, three month or six month job. But, yes, definitely knowledge could be polished and preparation could be planned keeping the desirables in focus.

So, the best way would be to keep the question paper, i.e.the ultimate target, in mind and prepare accordingly.

The first part of question paper that is Part A, which contains questions related to general aptitude and reasoning, mathematical problem solving skills etc. Expertise in this particular area comes from continuous process, still to expedite, one must go through the NCERT books of Mathematics subject for class 7h to 10th; one can collect some books on ‘General Aptitude’ and prepare through them. There are several preparation books available in market/online now. Study materials for MBA/GATE entrance etc. also provide the same, one can collect that as well.

 

The second and third part of the question paper are Part B and C, which require knowledge and application of the subject thoroughly you have chosen for. The topics covered in the subject can be studied using the books prescribed by your university syllabus, suggested by teachers, suggested by seniors.
